Control products have many names, and they are called differently. The commonly used control products include DCS and PLC. We extend the concept of DCS to FCS.
DCS (Distributed Contorl System), distributed control system, also known as distributed control system.
PLC (Program Logic Control), programmable logic controller.
FCS (FieldBus Contorl System), field bus control system
Up to now, there is no strict boundary between DCS and PLC. In the eyes of most people, the big system is DCS, and the small system is called PLC. Of course, it’s not impossible to say that, but it’s not right. Now let’s re-establish this notion.
First of all, what is the difference between DCS and PLC?
From the perspective of development.
DCS evolved from the traditional dashboard monitoring system. Therefore, DCS is inherently more focused on the control of instruments. For example, the ABB Freelance2000 DCS system we use does not even have a limit on the number of PIDs (PID, proportional derivative and integral algorithm, is the standard algorithm for closed-loop control of regulating valves and frequency converters, usually PID determines the number of control valves that can be used).
PLC developed from the traditional relay circuit. The original PLC did not even have the processing capability of analog quantities. Therefore, the PLC emphasized the logical operation capability from the beginning.
