The primary understanding stage of programmable logic controllers (late 1970s to early 1980s)
The development of programmable logic controllers in the world first aroused great interest in the domestic engineering and technical circles. Therefore, my country’s understanding of programmable logic controllers began with the introduction of complete sets of equipment in the late 1970s and early 1980s. At that time, Shanghai Baosteel has introduced more than 200 programmable controllers of more than a dozen models in a number of projects in the first phase of the project. These programmable controllers are used in the entire steel smelting and processing production lines from raw material docks to blast furnaces, steel rolling, and steel pipes, replacing traditional relay logic systems, and partially replacing analog control and small DDC systems. Following the Baosteel Phase I project, most of the equipment and production lines introduced by many domestic manufacturers are equipped with programmable logic controllers, which are used in various fields such as power stations, petrochemicals, automobile manufacturing, ports and wharfs. It was during the introduction of complete sets of equipment that we opened our eyes to understand the programmable logic controller, which also promoted the development of programmable logic controllers in our country.
The introduction and application of programmable logic controllers and the stage of digestion and transplantation (from the early 1980s to the early 1990s)
Since the early 1980s, with the continuous deepening of my country’s reform and opening up, while the introduction of complete sets of equipment, foreign original programmable logic controllers began to flood into the domestic market. Many departments and units have successively introduced programmable controllers and designed their own control systems, and their applications have also expanded to industrial fields such as building materials, light industry, coal, water treatment, food, pharmaceuticals, paper, rubber and fine chemicals.
With the improvement of application ability and the expansion of market demand, some departments and units have carried out secondary development and application research on the one hand, and on the other hand, they are also introducing production lines of programmable logic controllers. Establish a joint venture for the production of programmable controllers and actively develop their own products.
At the same time, programmable logic controller products were also developed in China. At that time, there were more than 20 scientific research units, universities and factories in Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Changchun and other places developing and producing programmable logic controllers. However, due to the lack of funds and follow-up research strength, and the relatively backward production technology, it can only stay in the laboratory stage, and has not been put into practical application and industrialized production.
