The IC698CPE040 is a 1.8 MHz Central Processing Unit manufactured by GE Fanuc for the RX7i series. The IC698CPE040 features a Pentium-M microprocessor loaded with 64 MB of user memory and 64 MB of user flash. Just like any other RX7i CPU, IC698CPE040 is configured to perform real time control of devices, processes, and material handling structures. A rack-mounted backplane facilitates communication between IC698CPE040, I/O, and smart option modules via the VME64 Standard format. Embedded Ethernet ports facilitate communication between IC698CPE040, the programmer, and different HMI devices.
When powered, the IC698CPE040 undergoes a general self-diagnostic check. LED lights turn on and off in sequence during the initialization process. As soon as initialization has ended, the OK LED light will blink and then turn on. RAM memory is protected by a lithium battery pack IC698ACC701. To avoid loss of memory, a routine maintenance procedure should include scheduled replacement of the lithium battery pack. Apart from maintaining the program and data memory, the lithium battery also operates the calendar clock in case of power failure.
The IC698CPE040 CPU offers a number of important features, which include auto-located symbolic variables that use any amount of user memory, VME module support, a test edit mode that allows users to easily test modifications even when a program is running, bit-in -word referencing, and three distinct serial ports. CPU and module firmware can be upgraded through Win loader on the CPU’s RS-232 or RS-485 serial ports.
